Nursing Explorations

Eligibility Requirements:

Offered to current high school freshman, sophomores and juniors.
Proof of recent immunizations and participation fee required for accepted students. 

Program Description:

Nursing Explorations is a three-day program designed to introduce participants to VCU as a college choice, and to focus on career opportunities in nursing.  This workshop typically includes a VCU Health campus tour, a hospital tour and topics on various nursing careers.

Application Requirements:

For consideration to the program, students must complete the online application, including a personal statement as to why they wish to attend this program, and submit a teacher recommendation form.

2017 Program Descriptions

MEM Health Career Camp (Rising 9th Graders only)

Mary Elizabeth Mahoney (MEM) was the first African-American nurse in the U.S., and was known for a long and successful career composed of hard work, advocacy and dedication. This summer camp invites rising seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade students to explore nursing as a potential career. The camp also discusses shortages in other health care professions areas as well.

The application process to the camp is competitive. To be considered, students are required to complete an online application, personal statement and FJR2S Recommendation Form. If accepted to the program, students must submit proof of current immunizations, a screening test for tuberculosis (PPD) and a program fee (price TBD).  Rolling admissions; application will close as program reaches capacity.
